Understanding Gangs and Youth Violence

The aim of this course is to raise awareness of the issues involving young people and serious youth violence and gangs in Newham. This course will help attendees to identify and develop the key skills and techniques required to work with those involved in the aforementioned activity. The course also aims to demystify media stereotypes as well as core beliefs surrounding gangs and serious youth violence.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the learners should :

  • Be aware of the historical background to Serious Youth Violence
  • Be able to identify Grooming and Initiation – Female exploitation
  • Identify appropriate Intervention programmes.
  • Understand what processes and interventions are in place to support practitioners
  • Identify at the earliest stages possible whether a young person is involved in gangs and serious violence
  • Understand the reality of youth violence locally, whilst debunking media hype.

Non-attendance Policy

Please note that there is a non-attendance policy currently in place. There will be a charge of £100.00 (£50.00 for half day courses) for non-attendance if cancellation does not occur 5 working days before the event or replaced by another representative from your agency. All charges recuperated will be directed back into the training budget. If you are employed outside of the London Borough of Newham, please provide the name and contact details for your finance team.
