Domestic Abuse: Intervention and Ways of Working

26th January 2018 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm GMT

Free

This one day workshop provides practitioners with appropriate interventions when working with victims, perpetrators of violence and their children. It explores current programmes available for victims, including the Freedom Programme and Recovery Toolkit. It also highlights the learning process for victims and demonstrates the cognitive behavioural therapy way of working. The session also highlights the ‘strengths based working’ model which is becoming more frequently adopted across the UK. Programmes such as Building Better Relationships and a community based programme will be demonstrated and learners will experience examples of the programmes. The session will close by exploring the impact of domestic abuse on children, exploring the effects on different age categories drawing on the ‘Boys to Men’ research as well as the Relationships without Fear programme. The session links to Newham’s local policies on supporting victims of domestic abuse as well as highlighting local referral pathways into specialist services.
