To introduce participants to the subject of child trafficking exploitation and modern slavery and develop skills to enable better identification, referral and working with children who may have been trafficked.
Training Level: 2 Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Define the concept of child trafficking, exploitation and modern slavery and describe what is known about the situation in the UK
- Explain trafficking within the context of safeguarding
- Demonstrate a greater understanding of the core practice issues in identifying and protecting children who may have been trafficked, including safe and appropriate placements,
- and balancing risks and rights
- Better identify and assess potentially trafficked children
- Know the obstacles to identification
- Describe the National Referral Mechanism and the role of the Competent Authority
- Differentiate the needs and risks of trafficked children, with reference to care planning and risk assessments in a multi-agency framework
- Demonstrate how existing legislation can be used to protect trafficked children
- Define how to respond to suspicions of trafficking
- Describe how Children s Services respond to a suspected case of child trafficking
- Recognise the impact of trafficking on victims
